As we begin our journey, we also ask these questions:
“How do we get there?” or “Which way do we go?”
Psalm 86 is a prayer from King David in which he writes, “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me and undivided heart that I may fear your name.” Through David’s prayer we learn of the need for direction on the journey, and we pray: “Teach me YOUR way…”
In Jeremiah, God says that He knows the plans, or the way, for us and He desires to give hope and a future. We are a pleading for God’s direction, leading toward places of hope, in life and circumstances, and toward a future. He gives us the promise that if we pray, He will listen; and if we seek Him, we will find Him. We pray that He will give us direction and will plant us among people groups who need His hope and His future.
Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” He is the way. On our journey, our prayer is that He will reveal His way and lead us into harvests of redemption, hope, and life.
Father, we are thankful that when we need direction in our lives that you are The Way. Thank you for your promises to us. We ask, Father, that you teach us your ways that we might walk in them. Fill us with the knowledge of your will and your ways through spiritual wisdom and understanding, and give us endurance and patience as we run the race set before us (Colossians 1:9-12, Hebrews 12:1).
